It's official...marketing mixers is on Twitter and has been now for over 24 hours...and I'm finally starting to understand what all the fuss is about. I've used Twitter for a while as personal user but I haven't pushed it on the professional front as I thought I'd examine how others were taking advantage of it first.
First Impressions
If nothing else, having a business presence on Twitter enables the world to find you on what is, a massive… Continue
Today T-Mobile filmed the next part of its 'Life's For Sharing' campaign in Trafalgar Square, London. As word quickly spread, thousands of people arrived to try to get their share of the lime light.
By all accounts, Trafalgar Square was turned in to a big karaoke party, with the crowd singing along to music from films such as The Blues Brothers and Grease and other classics such as 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' by Bonnie Tyler.
There's a chance the ad may be turned around as quickly as this wee… Continue

ITV1 have decided to run an awareness campaign to differentiate themselves from their competitors with an advert called 'Sunshine'. The advert aims to articulate what ITV1 stands for - the most entertaining, upbeat, optimistic programming in the UK.
This first ad (available below) aims to remind people that ITV1 can provide them with a drop of sunshine. For me I'm not sure if they've missed the point though? I like the sentiment but a drop of sunshine isn't a lot when they could have surely dev… Continue

I've been a big fan of the Honda ads over the past few years and it was good to see them back to their bright and creative ways and hear the distinctive voice of Garrison Keillor.
The campaign aims to get more members of the public to be "do gooders" regarding the environment. See what you think of their TV ad here in this video:

There's been more talk this week of how Twitter should look to capitalise on it's new found market share in the social networking & micro-blogging space.
Biz Stone, co-founder of the 3 year old company has been quoted as saying that advertising is “not a good business model” for the microblogging website. Whilst he states there are “lots of great signs of potential business models” he reveals in an interview with US paper San Jose Mercury, that Twitter w… Continue

As we head towards the end of March, I'm very interested to hear how 2009 has gone for your company in a marketing sense so far? Have you found you are spending more or less money marketing your products/services? Have you made any surprising gains or loses in the different areas where you're spending money and have you capitalised on any free opportunities?
Clearly many companies are making severe cut-backs and even ceasing trading which is never a good thing to see. Business owners are having… Continue

"It's the brand you grew up with and we want to build on 100 years of heritage with a little help from you!"
It seems Woolworths could be returning to our lives but this time they're looking to dominate the online high street rather than the actual one. The hundred year old retailer that collapsed in December will soon be trading again after its brand name was bought by Shop Direct, Britains biggest home shopping retailer (who currently operate under brands such as Littlewoods… Continue

I was recently asked to help out with a client who wanted to store, access and possibly share documents online with his team. After looking at various solutions, we set-up a 'Google Apps' account so that he could benefit from having his email, calendar and documents all in the same place and, if he wanted, shared with his other users.
Depending how you feel about google, y… Continue

Welcome back to marketingmixers.com. Today we've launched some new changes to the design and moved forward with some recent features.
Most notably, the Directory section has now started to take shape (in structure) so if you would like to see your Marketing company listed then let me have the details. Secondly, a major branding decision has been taken as we move away from the old logo and move ahead with a simpler text based offering and cleaner feel to the website throughout as a result of the… Continue

This week was certainly an interesting one for the UK economy. With mayor Boris getting a torrid time from the media in regards to London's ability to deal with the wintery weather it's predicted that all in all, this snow storm will end up costing the economy billions! It seems that unle… Continue

A new search engine hit our screens in July and the hype around the industry pre-launch was that this could be a serious threat to google going forward.
www.cuil.com (pronounced 'cool') dubbed 'The World's Biggest Search Engine' claims to have already indexed over 120 billion pages so far.
The service is interesting and I'll use it a bit more before making an judgements...I'd certainly recommend checking out their '… Continue

We all know what a traditional 'community' is...we likely live in one and I'm sure many of you are already involved in them (if you're reading this now, you're already in at least one)! They are the places where groups of individuals go who are united by a common interest. You've probably heard of facebook, my space, friends reunited etc. and they are all examples of very successful online communities.
I thought it would make sense to write a post about blogging as there's a fair chance a number of users will have heard the term but might not understand it?
What Is A Blog?
A 'blog' is a place online for any individual to write down their thoughts, opinions or findings on certain issues and ultimately note down/document their views. My blog here will be focused around online issues and my thoughts of the day in general - it might be a rant about a company's marketing/advertising or t
It's been reported that Channel 4 will stage a live television advert tonight involving an "ambitious sky diving jump".
"The commercial will be screened during the channel's dinner party series Come Dine With Me.
The sky divers will be given only three minutes and 20 seconds to spell out a message to viewers in a series of challenging formations over Madrid.
The advert, inspired by Honda's strapline "If it's difficult it's worth doing" is a precursor to the car manufacturer's new advertisi… Continue

To most guys the combination of 'Girls Aloud ' and chocolate would be a pretty good combination. Unfortunately, this ad doesn't really appear to have done a lot for either the girl group or Kit Kat? It's early days and it will be interesting to see if it helps sales or not. It reminded me a bit of when the Spice Girls helped (well got paid to) advertise Tesco at Christmas. Somehow 'selling out' to one of the biggest organisations in the world was more understandable than this though?

I recently saw this advert for Visa Europe and I think it's a great effort at promoting their powerful piece of plastic. I also found it interesting as I am going to be best man at a wedding next summer so I'll ensure no credit cards are left with the groom when we leave him naked in the desert! Thanks to Saatchi and Saatchi for flagging that point.
On a serious note, it was an interesting and commical way to remind us all that our flexible friends are there to get us out of even the tighest of… Continue

I don't rememebr this (and think I'm excused as I was 5 years old at the time) but it is great to see how they pitched themselves all those years ago
See for yourself:
Great to see that 24 years on and people are still talking about their products and wondering what's next? Not that it's been an easy ride for them but they are certainly enjoying the fruits of their labour at the moment.
Honda have moved on and aren't taking the challenge of climate change lightly it appears. In their own unique style they have yet again produced an advert which captured my attention from the off and made me really buy in to what they were trying to achieve. Fantastic and you can see it here if you've not see it yet:
I was at the Cinema the other night (to watch Michael Clayton - very good by the way) and what intrigued me almost as much as the film, was the advert for 'Orange Unlimited Texts'.
You should be able to see the advert below and I'd be interested to know your thoughts on it? For me it had more in common with the Sony 'Bravia' range (of which there was also an ad. before the film) as they have grabbed on to the multi-colour br
Have you ever wondered why you often can't find your own google ads when you search? Well, I have and I'm delighted to say I now have the answer thanks to Marc Warren (Director at periscopix).
Marc and his team focus purely on paid for search listings and he told me about a preview tool that google developed a while back to help you see ads regardless of geography (you're not likely to see your ads targeted at Edinburgh if you're sitting in Lond
